U Chan Aye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN-Myanmar SOM Leader attended the 18th ASEAN-Russia Senior Official Meeting held via videoconference on 23 May 2022. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Eat Sophea, Secretary of State and ASEAN-Cambodia SOM Leader and H.E. Igor Morgulov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN-Russia SOM Leader and attended by Senior Officials and representatives from ASEAN Member States and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Secretariat.

The Meeting discussed developments in ASEAN and the Russian Federation and exchanged views on regional and international issues while upholding ASEAN centrality in the region. The Meeting then followed up on the effective implementation of the Joint Statement of the Fourth ASEAN-Russia Summit and the ASEAN-Russia Comprehensive Plan of Action for 2021-2025. The meeting also supported ASEAN initiatives in the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus reached at the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting on 24 April 2021 and commended the progress made in the provision of ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar through ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre).

During the meeting, U Chan Aye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN-Myanmar SOM Leader welcomed the progress of ASEAN-Russia cooperation. U Chan Aye led discussions on ASEAN-Russia cooperation in Disaster Management, Health and People-to-People relations while encouraging ASEAN Member States and Russia to continue advancing ties in all important aspects of ASEAN-Russia cooperation.
